During a house viewing, a couple made a disturbing discovery that led them to contact the police. The pair was reportedly touring the property on their own when they entered through the back door and noticed something was wrong. They came across what appeared to be human remains in an advanced state of decay.
The police were called to a residence on Delphos Avenue in Dayton, Ohio, USA, at approximately 10 am on September 10, following reports of suspicious circumstances. Lieutenant Eric Sheldon of the Dayton Police informed PEOPLE magazine that human remains in an advanced state of decay were found inside the house.
According to the Dayton Daily News, the body was severely decomposed. Sergeant Creigee Coleman mentioned in a press briefing that it is challenging to ascertain whether the deceased individual lived in the house, was squatting, or was a missing person seeking shelter.
The police are working to identify the deceased individual to notify their family. It is believed that the body had been in the house for an extended period. The remains have been taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, and the property owner has been contacted by the authorities.
Sheldon stated that the homicide department will oversee the investigation, and the crime lab will handle the identification process, following standard procedure. A neighbor, Donald Arnold, reported detecting a foul odor emanating from the house, initially mistaking it for a dead animal.
Police are requesting information from any witnesses as part of their inquiry. This incident follows the recent discovery of a body in a vacant property in Rishton, Lancashire, where the death was considered unexplained. Lancashire Police responded to reports of a body found inside a derelict property on Blackburn Road, Rishton.
