The equestrian community in Britain is in mourning following the tragic death of rider Sarah Yorke, aged 37, who passed away after falling from her horse during the Aston-le-Walls Horse Trials in Northamptonshire. Despite prompt medical attention at the event, she could not be saved, as confirmed by British Eventing.
The horse, MGH HERA, ridden by Yorke, was unharmed and safely returned to the stable after being examined by on-site veterinarians. The competition, comprising dressage, cross-country, and show jumping phases, was canceled by British Eventing officials on Saturday in light of the incident. Yorke, who had previously emerged victorious, was competing in the BE100 class for the first time with her seven-year-old horse.
Rosie Williams, the Chief Executive of British Eventing, conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the organization to Sarah’s family and friends, with the entire eventing community offering support during this difficult period. The governing body of the sport announced a comprehensive review in response to the incident and highlighted the availability of the BE Support Trust helpline for assistance.
In a subsequent statement, the British Eventing Support Trust, in collaboration with Sporting Chance, expressed condolences and reiterated their commitment to providing help and support to those affected by the tragedy. Mental health professionals can be reached at 07780 008877 at any time for necessary assistance during this challenging time.
