“BBC Chief Defends Thomas Skinner’s Strictly Casting”

Date:

The casting of Thomas Skinner on the upcoming season of Strictly Come Dancing was defended by the BBC’s director-general, Tim Davie. This defense came shortly before Thomas, a former candidate on The Apprentice, abruptly left an interview, as reported today.

Thomas, aged 34, has sparked controversy with his casting for the BBC show, scheduled to air later this month. Reports emerged that he abruptly ended an interview and took a reporter’s phone upon realizing he was being recorded.

Earlier in the day, Tim Davie, aged 58, addressed the decision to include Thomas in the show during a discussion with the Culture, Media, and Sport Committee. He clarified that the casting decision was made by the production team based on criteria of audience interest and willingness to participate.

Regarding criticisms from presenter Narinder Kaur, who questioned Thomas’ casting, Tim stated he had no knowledge of her being rejected for the show due to controversy. He emphasized the responsibility of BBC Studios to select contestants based on their suitability and lack of extreme views.

Following the incident, Thomas abruptly left an interview, citing non-cooperation with recording practices. Witnesses described his unexpected behavior, highlighting a sudden change in demeanor during the press event.

The incident unfolded as a journalist attempted to record Thomas answering questions, leading to the abrupt end of the interview. Despite the disruption, Thomas’ fellow contestant, former footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, continued with the interviews.

The situation has garnered attention for the unexpected turn of events, showcasing the challenges faced in the lead-up to the highly anticipated show.
