Asda is preparing to launch up to 20 new convenience stores later this year. The initial Asda Express store will debut in Castleford in early October, followed by additional openings in various locations. These stores will offer a selection of around 3,000 branded and own-label products, including essential items like milk and bread.
The upcoming stores will be situated in urban centers, residential areas, and transportation hubs. This move follows Asda’s acquisition of 469 convenience store and fuel sites from Co-op and EG Group. Asda entered the Express store market in 2022.
David Lepley, Chief Supply Chain Officer, expressed excitement about expanding the Express rollout to more UK locations. He highlighted the rapid growth of Asda’s convenience store presence, reaching nearly 500 stores by the year’s end. This ongoing investment underscores Asda’s commitment to providing low prices to local communities.
In related news, Asda recently announced a £180 million investment to refurbish 180 in-store cafes. The upgrades will include digital ordering screens, table ordering service, and a new menu featuring dishes like smashed avocado on toast, katsu chicken curry, and salad bowls. Customers can also enjoy Asda pizzas, flavored iced coffees, and a range of cakes. The refurbishment, led by Compass Group, is expected to be completed by the end of October, with all 205 cafes offering popular deals like Kids Eat for £1.
