Ant and Dec are once again nominated for Best Presenter at the National Television Awards, marking a potential 46th win for the popular Geordie duo. The pair, both aged 49, have been close friends since their days on the BBC teen drama, Byker Grove, where they portrayed the iconic characters PJ and Duncan.
Their friendship has stood the test of time, with the duo even residing on the same London street and continuing to vacation together with their respective spouses and three children. However, a heated altercation back in 1995 almost jeopardized their bond and careers.
The incident occurred during a summer night in Spain when the two got into a drunken argument while promoting their music on GMTV’s Fun in the Sun with Anthea Turner. Ant and Dec, fueled by alcohol, clashed over Dec wanting to retire early for the night, leading to a physical altercation where Ant punched Dec in the chest.
Despite the tension, they managed to put aside their differences for their TV appearance the next morning and have maintained a strong friendship ever since. Reflecting on their relationship in 2013, Ant emphasized the authenticity of their bond, attributing their enduring friendship to staying true to themselves.
