An expatriate American woman residing in Wales has recently detailed the significant cultural differences she encountered after relocating. Known as Tim Tam Travels on social media, she shared her astonishment at various aspects of life in the UK that were unfamiliar to her in the US.
Temilorun, now 24, made the move from Georgia to Cardiff, South Wales, in 2023 to pursue her university studies. In a TikTok video, she marveled at the picturesque countryside and expressed surprise at encountering sheep in unexpected locations. She also marveled at the expansiveness and tranquility of Wales’ beaches, highlighting features like the absence of air conditioning and the sight of tractors on open roads, which were entirely new experiences for her.
However, the most striking revelation for her was the discovery of a renowned British bakery, Greggs, which she initially didn’t understand but has now developed a strong fondness for.
In response to her post, one user commended her appreciation for Wales and emphasized the distinction between Wales as a country and not merely a town in England. Another user recommended downloading the Greggs app for a better experience and mentioned the TooGoodToGo app for discounted items not sold during the day.
Further users shared their experiences and suggestions, encouraging her to explore more of Wales, including trying a local ice cream in Swansea. In her videos, she showcased her adventures in Wales, including her first encounters with traditional Welsh foods like cockles and laverbread.
Despite not fully embracing Welsh delicacies as regular snacks, she expressed her enjoyment of everything Wales has to offer, singling out Welsh Cakes as her personal favorite treat.
