A man in Pennsylvania was surprised when his emotional support alligator was barred from a well-known supermarket, despite being treated like a VIP in various restaurants. Wesley Silva, the owner, received Jinseioshi as a gift four years ago and the two have shared a close bond ever since.
Silva expressed his astonishment at owning an alligator, stating that their experiences together have been remarkable, including receiving special treatment at restaurants like Denny’s. He officially registered Jinseioshi as an emotional support animal, accompanying him everywhere. However, when they tried to enter a Walmart in West Brownsville two weeks ago, they were informed that alligators were not allowed on the premises. This decision came after images of Jinseioshi in a shopping cart, dressed in a grey outfit, circulated on social media.
Walmart clarified that while they welcome most service animals, alligators are considered hazardous. In a statement to NBC affiliate WPXI, a spokesperson emphasized the safety of customers and associates as their top priority, hence the ban on alligators in their stores.
Despite the setback, Silva remains determined to take Jinseioshi to different places, stating that he will adapt to the circumstances. Notably, Pennsylvania does not have specific regulations against owning alligators as long as they are not released into the wild, according to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
