A man who believed he was defending humanity from aliens brutally attacked and killed a father-to-be by beheading him on a bus journey. The incident took place on July 30, 2008, when Vincent Weiguang Li boarded the bus where Tim McLean, a Canadian carnival worker, was traveling to meet his pregnant girlfriend in Winnipeg. Initially sitting quietly, Li moved to the back of the bus where Tim was asleep and launched a violent assault, resulting in the gruesome mutilation of Tim’s body. Despite attempts by a young veteran and the bus driver to intervene, Li continued his savage attack, eventually decapitating Tim and consuming parts of his flesh in full view of horrified onlookers.
Following his arrest, Li claimed to have acted upon the instructions of a divine voice, believing he was the savior against an alien invasion. Despite his disturbing actions, Li was deemed not criminally responsible due to mental illness and was confined to a mental health facility. In 2017, he was granted an absolute discharge and now resides in Manitoba under a new identity.
The tragic incident left a lasting impact on Tim’s family, with his parents expressing their ongoing struggle to cope with the loss. However, a silver lining emerged with the birth of Tim’s son months after the tragedy, whom his mother sees as a precious gift from her late son.
