Aldi has announced a comprehensive list of over 20 stores set to undergo significant enhancements by the year’s end.
The retailer has confirmed that two of its locations – Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria and Ebbw Vale in Wales – are scheduled for extensions before December. Additionally, 21 other Aldi stores will receive various upgrades, such as revamped fixtures, improved layouts, and enhanced sustainability features.
Having already completed upgrades in more than 500 stores, Aldi has introduced modernized layouts, expanded fresh and chilled product sections, and wider, brighter aisles.

By extending and refreshing our current sites, we aim to offer more sustainable and convenient stores, ensuring they continue to meet community needs for years to come.”
Aldi plans to open approximately 40 new branches in the UK in 2025, with a current store count exceeding 1,050 and a long-term goal of reaching 1,500 locations. The supermarket recently unveiled a list of priority locations across the UK for potential new store openings, seeking sites capable of accommodating a 20,000 sq ft store with about 100 parking spaces and good road visibility.
Moreover, Aldi is scouting locations in Central London for its Aldi Local store format, requiring a minimum of 5,000 sq ft of trading space and an extra 3,000 sq ft for ancillary purposes.

With a focus on opening 40 new stores in 2025 and refreshing existing stores to enhance customer experiences, Aldi aims to consistently offer exceptional value to a broader UK audience.
