An individual known for adult films, who committed a brutal murder of her former spouse after marrying her stepson, has been convicted of the crime. Devyn Michaels, aged 47, now faces the possibility of spending her life in prison for the killing of Johnathan Willette, aged 46, whose body, missing its head, was found soaked in chemicals at his residence.
Willette’s mother discovered his body wrapped in bloody blankets, as indicated in an arrest report. Prosecutors revealed that the adult film star from Las Vegas orchestrated the murder out of jealousy towards Willette, who had gained sole custody of their two children.
During Michaels’ trial, prosecutor John Giordani cautioned the jurors to prepare for a tumultuous journey as he presented evidence, including crime scene photographs, to support the case. Michaels admitted to hitting Willette with a candlestick-like object during a massage session, leading to his death. She then confessed to decapitating him and disposing of his head in a laundry basket at her residence before discarding it in a local bin.
Allegations were made that Michaels wanted to eliminate her ex-husband despite his intentions to reunite with her and their son. The prosecution emphasized that Michaels felt cornered and resorted to drastic measures to maintain her desired future with her children and her stepson.
Michaels and Willette had a tumultuous relationship, sharing two daughters, before getting married in 2012 and divorcing in 2018. Surprisingly, Michaels later married Willette’s son, Deviere Willette, in what she described as a convenience marriage during court proceedings.
Deviere, Willette’s son, denied any involvement in his father’s death, refuting accusations made by Michaels’ defense team due to the lack of evidence placing him at the crime scene. The victim’s head remains missing, and no murder weapon or dismemberment tools have been recovered.
Initially pleading guilty to second-degree murder with a 15-year prison sentence, Michaels later claimed innocence during her sentencing hearing, prompting a first-degree murder trial. Ultimately, jurors reached a guilty verdict this week.
The lead prosecutor stated during the trial that Michaels murdered Willette to solidify a future with her children and his son. Michaels awaits sentencing on 8 January, facing a potential life sentence with or without parole, as prosecutors opted not to pursue the death penalty.
