“London to Host World Triathlon Championship Series in 2026”

Date:

The World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) will make its return to London in 2026 at the London T100 Triathlon weekend, following British Olympic champion Alex Yee’s victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The upcoming London WTCS race has secured funding from the National Lottery through UK Sport in collaboration with British Triathlon. It marks the event’s comeback to the capital since 2015 and is scheduled for July 25-26, 2026.

Hosted at the Excel Centre, the event will be organized by the PTO and London Marathon Events as part of the successful London T100 Triathlon weekend. The previous edition of this event saw nearly 6,000 amateur participants, including well-known sports personalities and celebrities like Adam Peaty, Billy Monger, and Gordon Ramsay with his family.

The decision has been made by the PTO and World Triathlon to replace the professional T100km distance races, won by British athlete Lucy Charles-Barclay and New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde in 2024, with the shorter WTCS format for 2026. The amateur segment of the weekend will continue to offer the PTO’s signature 100km triathlon, as well as Olympic, Sprint, and Relay options.

Sam Renouf, the PTO CEO, expressed, “Bringing a WTCS race back to London is significant news for our sport and allows triathlon to continue to build on the British team’s fantastic Olympic performances in Paris last year.”

“This announcement showcases our strong partnership with World Triathlon, with whom we have a 12-year strategic agreement to foster the sport’s growth,” Renouf added. “Collaborating with British Triathlon, we aim to promote the event to a wider audience and drive a lasting legacy beyond the competition.”

The PTO’s long-term partnership with World Triathlon, established in October 2024 and running until 2036, aims to explore new avenues for sport development. This collaboration has already led to the successful hosting of WTCS races alongside T100 events in France and Australia.

Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, shared, “We are thrilled to work with the PTO and World Triathlon to bring the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) back to London.” He emphasized the event’s role in inspiring more people to participate and highlighted the growing popularity of the London T100 Triathlon weekend.

Antonio F. Arimary, President of World Triathlon, commented, “Our partnership with the PTO has enabled us to offer a variety of professional triathlon distances, aligning with different opportunities. The WTCS races, known for their speed and intensity, are well-suited for the current road permits in London.”

Continuing the positive trend in London, the PTO and British Triathlon will collaborate to enhance event marketing and drive participation while fostering a sustainable legacy. This effort aims to engage diverse audiences through grassroots programs.

Ruth Daniels, CEO of British Triathlon, expressed excitement about bringing a major event to London, emphasizing the opportunity for British athletes to showcase their talent and engage with fans. The event also offers volunteering opportunities and aims to create a long-term impact on local communities.

Esther Britten, Head of Major Events at UK Sport, highlighted the importance of using National Lottery funding to support world-class sporting events that allow fans to cheer on GB athletes at home. The event series is expected to benefit local communities and promote environmental sustainability.

These developments in London come on the heels of the Mayor Of London’s recent announcement celebrating the success of women’s sports events that attracted over 1.4 million fans to the capital in 2025, including the London T100 Triathlon weekend.
