“Home Secretary Slams MP for Racist Remarks”

Date:

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has criticized Reform MP Sarah Pochin over her controversial remarks. Pochin, a close ally of Nigel Farage, faced backlash after expressing frustration at the visibility of Black and Asian individuals in advertisements. Mahmood addressed the issue at a gathering in Westminster, humorously referencing Pochin’s viewing habits and apologizing for potentially adding another “brown face” to her screen time.

Following the uproar, 35 MPs have called for an investigation into Pochin’s conduct by Parliament’s standards chief. Despite criticism from Farage, who described Pochin’s comments as “ugly,” he has refrained from expelling her from the party.

Pochin’s comments, made during a TalkTV phone-in, have drawn condemnation from Labour MP Dawn Butler, who has urged an investigation into what she deems racist remarks targeting Black and Asian individuals. Butler emphasized the importance of upholding integrity and respect in public life.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage expressed dissatisfaction with Pochin’s comments, acknowledging their problematic nature while defending her against accusations of racism. Farage has resisted calls for disciplinary action against Pochin, stating that he would have taken more severe measures if he believed her intentions were racially motivated.
