A 14-month-old infant is now set for life-saving heart surgery after his mother successfully raised a substantial £1.5 million for his medical treatment in the United States.
Jasmin Roberts, the mother, launched a fundraising campaign to secure the necessary funds for her son, who was born with a rare and intricate heart condition known as pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (PA-VSD MAPCAs). Without the crucial surgery, Ollie’s life expectancy was less than two years.
The £1.5 million was needed to cover the expenses for the vital surgery at Stanford, USA, which is renowned for treating Ollie’s specific condition. Due to the limitations of the NHS in offering only palliative care, the surgery had to be sought in the US.
With over 90% of the target amount raised, Jasmin reached out to the Stanford medical center to secure a surgery date after surpassing the 75% milestone. Upon achieving full funding, the surgery is confirmed to proceed as scheduled for January 23, 2026.
Expressing her relief, Jasmin disclosed, “I can see the end in sight, and I am eagerly anticipating the conclusion of the fundraiser so I can finally relax. Although we are close, raising even £100,000 is a remarkable feat, so I am cautiously optimistic.”
Ollie’s story gained widespread attention on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, leading to a generous outpouring of support from the public. Notable contributions included £10,000 from actor Ryan Reynolds, £110,000 from author Leigh Rivers, and a £15,000 donation from an anonymous benefactor.
Grateful for the overwhelming support, Jasmin acknowledged the public’s assistance in reaching the £1.4 million milestone. Initially daunting, the fundraising effort has received an incredible response, bringing them near the campaign’s completion.
The surgery for Ollie involves a two-step heart repair process, with the initial phase to be done in Stanford before transitioning to the NHS for the subsequent stage. Jasmin emphasized the need for full funding before the surgery can proceed, emphasizing the final push required to close the fundraiser.
