Irish sprinter She’s Quality passed away in a hospital following a pelvic fracture sustained during a race at the Breeders’ Cup held in Del Mar, California. The four-year-old filly, trained by Jack Davison based in Dunboyne, Co Meath, had accumulated over £250,000 in earnings and achieved four second-place finishes in Group competitions throughout 2025.
She had been considered a strong contender for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, but her race abruptly ended as she fell behind the other 13 competitors. Jockey Colin Keane made the decision to halt her race on the back stretch, leading to immediate medical attention from veterinarians.
During the post-race evaluation, Breeders’ Cup veterinarian Dr. Scott Hay noted that the jockey had shown concern for She’s Quality during the race, prompting her to be pulled up as a precautionary measure due to suspected hind lameness. Despite no obvious injury visible on her limb, she was transferred to the equine hospital for further assessment.
Tragically, a day later, Jack Davison confirmed the heartbreaking news of She’s Quality’s demise due to a pelvic fracture suffered during the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Despite receiving initial care at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital and showing stability initially, her condition deteriorated overnight, leading to the difficult decision of humane euthanasia.
Davison expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their talented filly, acknowledging the immense care provided by his staff over the years. The Breeders’ Cup extended their condolences to She’s Quality’s connections, recognizing the impact of her passing on the equine community.
