A recently uncovered document reveals that a former legal representative of Barack Obama is listed as an executor in Jeffrey Epstein’s will. The House Oversight Committee has released files from the investigation into the disgraced financier, who passed away in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges. Among the revealed documents is a letter allegedly signed by Donald Trump for Epstein’s 50th birthday album in 2003, a claim the US president denies.
Epstein’s will, signed in January 2019, before his death in a New York prison cell eight months later, designates Kathryn Ruemmler, a former White House counsel under Obama and current Goldman Sachs general counsel, as a backup executor. The primary executors named in the will are Darren Indyke, Epstein’s former personal lawyer, and Richard Kahn, a former accountant. The will was updated following Epstein’s arrest in July 2019.
Questions have arisen about Ruemmler’s connections to Epstein, given her numerous meetings with him between 2013 and 2017, even after his previous conviction in 2008. Records from Epstein’s diary, released two years ago, indicate these interactions. Reports suggest that Ruemmler was invited to accompany Epstein to Paris in 2015 and his private Caribbean island in 2017, although she apparently declined these invitations.
Their initial meeting reportedly occurred when Epstein inquired if Ruemmler would represent Bill Gates and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as confirmed by a Goldman Sachs spokesperson in 2023. Correspondences between Epstein and women working for him, discussing Ruemmler’s presence, were also included in the released documents.
Despite the scrutiny, Ruemmler clarified to The Wall Street Journal that she has no involvement with Epstein’s estate. Goldman Sachs has expressed support for Ruemmler, emphasizing her respected legal judgment and dedication to the firm. REACH has reached out to Goldman Sachs for further comment.
