Prince Edward Island RCMP have confirmed that the deaths of two individuals following a shooting in western P.E.I. last summer are being treated as homicides. The incident, which occurred on August 8, 2025, on Hackmatack Road in Urbainville, is still under investigation, as stated in a recent press release.
Cpl. Gavin Moore, the media relations officer for P.E.I. RCMP, emphasized the seriousness of the investigation, noting the rarity of such incidents in the province. Authorities were alerted to the situation around 8 p.m. on the day of the incident after receiving reports of gunfire. Subsequently, a vehicle involved in the shooting had crashed into a ditch.
A 35-year-old man who was driving the vehicle sustained gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene. Initially, a 50-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with severe injuries but later succumbed to her injuries. Both fatalities are now being treated as homicides, according to the latest police update.
The RCMP had previously indicated that the shooting was targeted and suggested that a second vehicle was present at the scene, with the perpetrator fleeing afterward. To aid in the investigation, authorities released a photo of a white 2007 Honda Accord that might be linked to the incident.
