“Aryna Sabalenka Dominates at U.S. Open Amid Rain Delays”

Date:

Aryna Sabalenka entered the U.S. Open facing challenges and the risk of losing her top ranking. However, she showcased dominant form in the second round, defeating Polina Iatcenko 6-1, 6-1 in just 53 minutes. Sabalenka expressed satisfaction with her performance and focus, indicating a positive shift from her recent struggles.

Several matches were postponed due to rain, limiting play to indoor courts like Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium. Despite the weather disruptions, some players managed to secure victories, including Carlos Alcaraz, Jessica Pegula, Ben Shelton, and Daniil Medvedev.

Sabalenka, aiming to achieve a historic three-peat at the U.S. Open, emphasized her improved mental and physical strength compared to her mid-season setbacks. She displayed a strong serving performance against her opponent, winning 21 out of 28 first-serve points.

The tournament schedule was affected by rain delays, extending the completion of the first round into the fourth day. Despite the challenges, players like Alex de Minaur and Paula Badosa adapted well to the changing match schedules, with Badosa overcoming nerves to secure a victory.

In other matches, Rafael Jodar faced a tough defeat, while Alex Michelsen, Frances Tiafoe, and Mariano Navone achieved notable wins. Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova and runner-up Karolina Muchova progressed to the third round, along with other players setting up exciting matchups in the upcoming rounds.
