Canada’s Sophia Jensen secured her first-ever world title at the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe World Championships held in Poznań, Poland. The 24-year-old athlete from Chelsea, Que., clinched the gold medal in the women’s C1 500-meter final, crossing the finish line in a swift time of two minutes 0.78 seconds. Agnes Anna Kiss from Hungary claimed the silver medal with a time of 2:02.80, while Belarusian Alena Nazdrova took home the bronze in 2:04.80.
In addition to Jensen’s remarkable achievement, Ottawa’s Brianna Hennessy also made Canada proud by winning the bronze medal in the KL1 women’s 200m final, clocking in at 54.20 seconds. The gold in this event was secured by Chilean Paralympic champion Katherinne Wollermann with a time of 52.23 seconds, followed by China’s Maosan Xie who clinched the silver in 53.92 seconds.
