“Canada Dominates Puerto Rico in Olympic Volleyball Qualifier”

Top-ranked Canada is on the verge of securing a spot at the Olympics after defeating Puerto Rico in the opening match of the women’s volleyball NORCECA Continental Qualifier in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on Friday. Canada emerged victorious with a clean sweep in the best-of-five match, triumphing over Puerto Rico with set scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-10.

Canada showcased dominance across various aspects of the game, leading in attacks with 42 to Puerto Rico’s 32, as well as in aces with 4 to 2. They also capitalized on errors, earning more points from mistakes with a score of 17-12, and excelled in blocks with a significant lead of 12-2. Head coach Giovanni Guidetti praised the team’s mental fortitude, highlighting their focus and confidence even during challenging moments in the match.

Looking ahead, Canada is preparing to face the Dominican Republic on Saturday in a crucial match for an Olympic qualification. Kiera Van Ryk of Canada stood out as the top scorer, tallying an impressive 20 points, consisting of 13 attacks, three blocks, and four aces.

The team is optimistic about their performance and eagerly anticipates the upcoming challenging match as they aim to secure their spot at the Olympics.
