The Vancouver Rise made a strong statement in their debut match in Ottawa, defeating the Ottawa Rapid 5-1 in a Northern Super League showdown. Alex Lamontagne showcased her skills by scoring twice, while Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes, who converted a penalty shot, also contributed to the Rise’s four-goal spree in the second half. Despite Elise Bell managing to score for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, it was not enough to prevent Jessica Wulf from securing a clean sheet.
Following this impressive victory, the Rise climbed to fourth place in the league standings, surpassing the Halifax Tide by one point with a record of seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, totaling 22 points. The Ottawa Rapid, despite maintaining their top spot with 33 points, now have a record of 10 wins, four losses, and three draws, trailing the Montreal Roses by three points.
During the match, the Vancouver Rise held a slight edge in possession (53% to 47%) and dominated in shots, outshooting the Rapid 17-8, with 11 shots on target compared to the hosts’ 3. Vancouver also capitalized on four corner kicks compared to Ottawa’s three, while both teams received two yellow cards each.
Looking ahead, the Rise will host the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid will travel to face AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
