Residents of Regina have been noticing an increase in coyote sightings around local parks, including Les Sherman Park. Scott Paton, a regular park visitor, shared his encounter with a curious coyote in mid-August. Despite the close encounter, he remained calm and continued his walk while informing others about the presence of the animal. Paton mentioned that although he hasn’t seen the coyote again, he has noticed evidence of its presence in the area.
However, not all residents feel comfortable with the coyotes roaming around their neighborhoods, particularly in the Cathedral area. Reports on social media have surfaced describing multiple interactions with coyotes near parks like Les Sherman and Kiwanis Waterfall. Concerns have been raised about the coyotes’ behavior, with some individuals noting that the animals appear unbothered by loud noises or attempts to scare them away.
City Councilor David Froh also encountered a coyote during a morning run in Les Sherman Park. He emphasized the importance of addressing persistent wildlife sightings to ensure public safety. The City of Regina has acknowledged reports of two coyotes in the vicinity and is collaborating with conservation officers to safely relocate the animals.
Froh reassured residents that dealing with wild animal sightings is a common occurrence and urged the community to prioritize the safety of both pets and wildlife. He emphasized the need for prompt reporting of any sightings that may pose a risk to public safety. Despite the presence of real-life coyotes in the area, the movie “Coyote vs. Acme” starring Will Forte continues to entertain audiences in local theaters.
