Dabrowski and Krejcikova Triumph in Cincinnati Open Doubles

Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Barbora Krejcikova from Czechia have progressed in the Cincinnati Open women’s doubles tournament. They secured a victory against the fourth-seeded team comprising Spain’s Cristina Bucsa and American Nicole Melichar-Martinez with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 during the Round of 32 on Monday. The match lasted one hour and 33 minutes.

This tournament marks the first time Dabrowski and Krejcikova have teamed up. They are set to compete against the unseeded Czech pair of Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova in the Round of 16 scheduled for Tuesday.

In another match, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Quebec, and her partner Sara Errani from Italy defeated Tamara Korpatsch from Germany and British player Emily Webley-Smith in a tight encounter lasting one hour and 29 minutes. The Canadian-Italian duo claimed victory with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (2), after a challenging second set where Korpatsch and Webley-Smith almost secured the win.

Fernandez and Errani showcased a strong performance with two aces, 23 winners, one double fault, and only nine unforced errors out of 34 in the match. They are now set to face Chan Hao-ching from Taiwan and Maya Joint from Australia in the Round of 16.

Fernandez faced a defeat against Xiyu Wang from China in the women’s singles event’s second round on Sunday.
