“Vancouver Rise Bolster Defense with Key Signings”

Date:

The Vancouver Rise have strengthened their squad with the addition of two new defenders ahead of a crucial match against the Halifax Tides. Chantelle Swaby, previously with Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who played for AFC Toronto in the NSL, have joined the team. Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller highlighted the unique qualities each player brings to the team, praising Swaby’s physicality and confidence on the field and Hansen’s eagerness to contribute as a center-back.

Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, including the National Women’s Soccer League and top divisions in Scotland and France. She emphasized her ability to maintain composure and provide leadership in pressure situations. Hansen, 26, expressed her excitement at returning home to Vancouver and playing in front of a supportive crowd, including her family.

The signings come after the retirement of forward Mariah Lee, who decided to pursue a career in law. Vancouver also loaned goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan to the Tides for the remainder of the season. With the team aiming to secure a playoff spot, currently trailing Halifax by five points, the players are focused on the crucial upcoming matches. Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the team’s determination to showcase their competitiveness and reach the playoffs once again.
