“Gwich’in Tribal Council Delays Annual Assembly”

Date:

The Gwich’in Tribal Council has decided to delay its upcoming annual general assembly, which was originally set for next week. This postponement is due to the need for additional time to finalize certain financial documents, as stated in a press release issued on Thursday.

The assembly was originally planned to commence on Wednesday in Fort McPherson. However, the council has not yet announced the new dates or provided details on how individuals can participate in the rescheduled event. According to the release, this information will be shared promptly.

The decision to postpone the assembly was made after careful consideration of the significant business matters typically addressed during the annual gathering. This move follows previous instances of financial-related challenges during council meetings.

During last year’s assembly, the council disclosed that it would not be releasing audited financial statements, which are typically a standard feature of annual general assemblies. Delays in obtaining financial data from the Gwich’in Development Corporation (GDC), a company wholly owned by the tribal council, were cited as the primary cause of this issue. The council referenced difficulties with the GDC that hindered the completion of the necessary audited statements.
