“Canada Dominates Flag Football World Championship Opener”

Canada’s flag football teams had a successful start at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) world championship in Düsseldorf, Germany. The Canadian women’s team began with a win over Panama, with quarterback Sara Parker throwing four touchdowns to lead the team to a 27-14 victory. In another game against Brazil, the Canadian women dominated with a 36-6 win, securing a 20-0 lead by halftime. Players Marianne Quirion, Frédérique Morneau, and Laura Molimard contributed significantly to the team’s success.

The Canadian men’s team also had a strong start, defeating Austria with a score of 26-6. Besides aiming for the world title, both Canadian teams are vying for a chance to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The top two teams at the world championships will secure spots in the Olympics, marking the sport’s debut in the program.

Both Canadian teams will conclude the group stage on Friday with matches against Japan. The men will play at 2 a.m. ET, while the women will compete at 4:30 a.m. ET. Viewers can watch all matches live on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem. Additionally, the Canadian men’s team will receive an automatic win against Nigeria, as the Nigerian team withdrew from the tournament due to visa issues.
