London authorities issue a rare public safety alert following the release on bail of a 19-year-old man facing charges related to child sexual abuse material offenses. The investigation began on July 28 after a report indicated that the man had made threatening remarks towards a teenage girl, including harm, sexual assault, and murder. The individual, identified as Connor Bennett, was taken into custody on July 30 initially for uttering threats of bodily harm.
Subsequently, additional charges were filed against Bennett for the possession and access of child sexual abuse and exploitation material. Following a court appearance on Tuesday, he was granted bail. In a press statement, law enforcement expressed concerns for public safety and opted to inform the public about Bennett’s release while urging those with relevant information to come forward.
As part of the bail conditions, Bennett is required to reside in Thorold, Ont., close to St. Catharines, and is prohibited from possessing or using any electronic or Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Additionally, he is barred from interacting with individuals under 18 years old unless accompanied by his surety and from possessing any weapons. Authorities are urging individuals with information pertinent to the case to report to the police.
