Daniel Wells Defies Criticism, Advances at Welsh Open

Date:

Daniel Wells is determined to prove Ronnie O’Sullivan wrong following the snooker legend’s blunt criticism of him at the 2023 Welsh Open. O’Sullivan, working as a pundit on Eurosport, advised Wells to remain a part-time player and not pursue a return to the professional circuit. Despite O’Sullivan’s discouraging comments, Wells advanced to the last 16 of the tournament, even defeating Judd Trump. Currently ranked 41st globally, Wells has shown strong performances this season, including reaching the semi-finals of the Xi’an Grand Prix.

Wells, undeterred by O’Sullivan’s remarks, expressed that they serve as motivation for him to excel. He highlighted that being noticed by O’Sullivan is an accomplishment in itself. Wells emphasized that he has always been resilient to criticism and now sees O’Sullivan’s comments as an added motivation to prove him wrong. He acknowledged that O’Sullivan’s words are displayed in his snooker room as a driving force.

Meanwhile, O’Sullivan suffered a 4-0 defeat against Shaun Murphy at the Riyadh Season Snooker Championship. Murphy swiftly eliminated O’Sullivan, who will be competing in the upcoming UK Championship starting on November 29. Murphy is set to face Zhao Xintong in the quarter-finals of the championship.
