Rock Singer Sass Jordan Dies at 65

Sass Jordan, a rock singer originally from Montreal with a career spanning almost four decades, has passed away at the age of 65. The news was confirmed by family spokesperson Eric Alper, who stated that Jordan passed away on Friday surrounded by her loved ones. The cause of her death has not been disclosed.

Described as an exceptional force of nature and a unique source of light and joy, Jordan made her mark in the music industry with her debut album, “Tell Somebody,” released in 1988. Her talent was recognized when she won the Juno Award for most promising female vocalist in 1989. Her second album, “Racine,” which came out in 1992, featured popular hits like “Make You a Believer.”

Throughout her career, she received multiple Juno Award nominations for best female vocalist and served as a judge on all six seasons of the reality TV show “Canadian Idol.” Born on December 23, 1960, in Birmingham, England, Jordan was raised in Montreal.

Geoff Kulawick, former president of Stony Plain Records, lauded Jordan as a courageous and striking artist. He highlighted her last two albums, “Rebel Moon Blues” in 2020 and “Bitches Blues” in 2022, which she recorded with her husband Derek Sharp under Stony Plains’ label.

Kulawick expressed his admiration for Jordan’s bluesy vocal prowess and emotional connection with her audience, which garnered her a dedicated fan base. Canadian producer and songwriter Derek Downham shared his fond memories of Jordan, emphasizing her warmth and humor. He lamented the loss of her infectious laughter.

As one of the few women in the rock music scene when she started her career, Jordan paved the way for other female artists in a predominantly male-dominated industry. Downham praised her resilience and ability to break barriers, showcasing her strength and talent to the world.

Remembered as an inspiration to aspiring performers, Jordan’s legacy is marked by her love for music and her dedication to connecting with her fans. Her impact on the music industry and her enduring spirit will continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.
