Actress Aimee Lou Wood and her sister Emily have shared the poignant reason behind their decision to stop working together. The renowned stars of “The White Lotus” and “Sex Education,” aged 31 and 28 respectively, have been vocal about their mental health challenges. Emily disclosed that due to their shared struggles, they made a conscious choice to distance themselves professionally.
Originally from Bramhall, Greater Manchester, the sisters resided together in London. Emily, a talented makeup artist, frequently crafted Aimee’s distinctive looks for various events, such as the 2021 BAFTA Film Awards, BAFTA TV Awards, and the premiere of “Sex Education.” However, as Aimee’s career soared, transitioning from a breakout star on Netflix to an Emmy-nominated actress in “The White Lotus,” their dynamic shifted.
During an appearance on the Breaking Beauty podcast, Emily addressed whether she still does her sister’s makeup, revealing, “No… It’s a sensitive area for us as we recognized years ago our mental health struggles.” She elaborated, emphasizing their sensitivity and the amplified challenges in a professional setting due to their conditions.
The makeup artist expressed that the intensity of working closely together became overwhelming. “I found it difficult as I was overly protective of her, constantly checking in, while she just needed to focus on getting through the day… It became too much for both of us,” she shared.
To safeguard their bond, the sisters established boundaries, with Emily emphasizing the importance of maintaining their sisterhood. Reflecting on this decision, she remarked, “We understood the necessity to mature and grow, and it turned out to be the best choice we made.”
Despite their decision, Emily made an exception by working on Aimee’s Burberry campaign earlier in the year, which she described as a delightful experience. Aimee has been candid about her personal battles with mental health, including struggles with bulimia, body dysmorphia, and social anxiety since her teenage years.
Earlier in the year, Emily disclosed that they now live separately, emphasizing the value of personal space. Their father, Mike, recently shared details of his tumultuous past, acknowledging the impact of his addiction on the family. Having been sober for 22 years, he expressed regret for his previous behavior and aims to be a positive influence moving forward.
