Tennis icon Novak Djokovic has addressed concerns regarding Jannik Sinner’s doping incident and subsequent suspension earlier this year. The Italian player accepted a three-month ban after testing positive for an anabolic steroid in 2024.
Initially, Sinner was cleared of wrongdoing as it was determined that the positive tests for clostebol stemmed from contamination during a massage. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found no fault on Sinner’s part for the results in March 2024.
In response to criticisms, the ITIA defended its handling of the case and refuted claims of favoritism towards Sinner. Following a challenge from the World Anti-Doping Agency, Sinner eventually served his suspension from February to May, allowing him to participate in the French Open.
Djokovic, who lost to Sinner in the semi-finals of the French Open and Wimbledon, shared his perspective on the situation during a discussion with Piers Morgan. He expressed surprise at the incident, believing Sinner did not intentionally violate the rules but criticized the handling of the case, citing lack of transparency and the timing of the ban.
Djokovic, known for his controversial stance on Covid-19 vaccination, clarified his position on freedom of choice regarding vaccines. Meanwhile, Sky has reduced the price of its TV and Sky Sports bundle, offering extensive coverage of live matches for the upcoming season, including an increased number of Premier League games.
