A 65-year-old man tragically passed away after slipping off the edge of the Grand Canyon, falling approximately 130 feet from Guano Point on the western rim of the canyon within the Hualapai Reservation, as confirmed by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
Assisted by Hualapai Nation technicians, the sheriff’s office deployed a pulley system using ropes to recover the man’s body on Thursday afternoon, locating him on a scree pile 130 feet down. Technical rope technicians established a lowering and raising system to retrieve the body and transfer it to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Various agencies, including the Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, and Grand Canyon West Security, contributed to the recovery efforts. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to the victim’s family and requested privacy for them during this difficult time.
The man’s identity has not been disclosed, and his body was transported to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office. This incident follows a similar tragedy in September, where a 27-year-old man named Steven Bradley from Federal Heights, Colorado, lost his life in Grand Canyon National Park after his vehicle went over a rim near the South Kaibab Trailhead, with his body discovered about 300 feet below the rim.
