Wetherspoon is set to establish a new pub at the University of Birmingham, named Joe’s after the university’s iconic clock tower. The pub chain will collaborate with the Guild of Students to operate Joe’s, providing the full range of Wetherspoon’s food and drinks menu, along with special weekly deals like the popular Thursday Curry Club.
Scheduled for an opening in Easter 2026, the new venue will undergo extensive refurbishment. This initiative follows Wetherspoon’s successful launch of its first university pub at Hull University back in 2022. With nearly 800 pubs nationwide, Wetherspoon’s chief executive, John Hutson, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with the Guild of Students, aiming to make Joe’s Bar a thriving venture.
The University of Birmingham Guild of Students President, Antonia Listrat, highlighted the benefits for students, emphasizing the value-for-money offerings and increased job opportunities resulting from the Wetherspoon partnership. Proceeds generated will be reinvested to support student activities, enhancing the overall student experience and fostering a vibrant future for the Guild. Additionally, Wetherspoon plans to unveil six more pubs by mid-January.
In other news, Wetherspoon recently introduced its Christmas menu, featuring the return of its popular turkey dinner. The festive feast includes turkey slices, stuffing, roasted vegetables, pigs-in-blankets, and more, priced at £13.99 with a soft drink or £15.52 with an alcoholic beverage. Although slightly pricier than last year, the menu will be available until December 31.
Tim Martin, Wetherspoon’s head, assured customers of minimal price increases despite the company’s positive sales and profit figures. Acknowledging industry-wide challenges, Martin emphasized Wetherspoon’s commitment to keeping price hikes at bay, striving to maintain affordability for its patrons.
