WestJet Flight Attendants’ Union Reveals Tentative Deal

Date:

The union representing WestJet’s flight attendants has disclosed the specifics of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline following a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has outlined key components of the deal, including an 18% salary increase spread over three years, a new “duty period premium” for ground work compensation, enhanced leave entitlements, and increased allowances for food and uniforms. The strike led to the grounding of all WestJet flights across a significant part of Canada during a holiday weekend as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union early Monday, leading to a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet. The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
