Waitrose has rolled out a new initiative within its myWaitrose loyalty program, offering complimentary “Little Treat” vouchers to customers. These vouchers are currently being tested in 18 stores and are triggered when a shopper spends £50, £100, and £250 during a single visit. Customers have the opportunity to receive up to three vouchers each month, with the count resetting at the beginning of each new month.
These vouchers can be redeemed for free products or discounts on future supermarket purchases. Importantly, they do not replace existing benefits of the loyalty scheme, such as complimentary hot drinks, discounts on selected service counter items, and offers through Uber Eats.
Nathan Ansell, the chief customer officer at Waitrose, expressed the company’s commitment to enhancing the My Waitrose loyalty club. The introduction of “Little Treats” aims to show appreciation to loyal customers by offering them delightful surprises regularly.
In a separate move, Waitrose introduced a “Borrow a Free Cup” scheme, allowing customers to borrow a reusable coffee cup for their complimentary beverage. Customers must return the cup within a week to avoid a £3 charge. This initiative, initially piloted in nine stores, enables customers to scan their MyWaitrose card to participate.
Furthermore, Waitrose resumed offering free tea and coffee to loyalty cardholders without the need for a prior purchase. The company notified customers via email about this change, emphasizing the use of reusable cups.
Previously, myWaitrose members had to make a purchase to claim their complimentary drink. In another development, Waitrose disclosed plans to open a new full-size supermarket in Brabazon, North Bristol, in 2027. This expansion, part of an agreement with YTL Developments, is expected to create around 150 job opportunities in the area.
