Date:

In today’s modern society, broadband has become a crucial component of our daily routines. It facilitates activities such as streaming entertainment, remote work, home security through internet-connected devices like cameras, and managing smart home features like lighting and heating.

The demand for fast and reliable internet access is escalating as more households integrate internet-connected gadgets and increase online content consumption. While a robust broadband connection is essential, not all internet service providers (ISPs) deliver the same level of performance.

According to a recent report from SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, Virgin Media leads in the UK with an average download speed of 256.5Mbps. This speed would allow users to download a full HD movie in just over two minutes, far exceeding the national average.

Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with an average download speed of 175Mbps, closely trailed by BT (EE). TalkTalk falls at the bottom of the list with an average speed of approximately 95Mbps.

Average download speeds across the UK are as follows:

Virgin Media – 256.5Mbps

Vodafone – 175.1Mbps

BT (EE) – 122.5Mbps

Sky Broadband – 113.6Mbps

TalkTalk – 94.7Mbps

In addition, SpeedGo’s analysis of upload speeds, crucial for users dealing with large file transfers or remote work, reveals Vodafone leading with an average upload speed of 83.6Mbps, surpassing Virgin Media, which holds the second position with 47.2Mbps.

Echoing these results, SpeedGo stated: “As of 2025, Virgin Media boasts the fastest broadband internet in the United Kingdom, achieving an average download speed of 256.5Mbps. Vodafone leads in average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.”
