Usyk Commits to Boxing Until 41, Eyes Fury

Date:

Oleksandr Usyk has declined a potential bout with up-and-coming British talent Moses Itauma. The Ukrainian secured his second undisputed heavyweight championship in July by defeating Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in front of a massive crowd of over 90,000. Despite turning 39 in January, Usyk revealed earlier this year his intention to have two more fights before retiring.

In a surprising turn of events, Usyk has now pledged to continue boxing until the age of 41. He expressed his commitment to the sport, stating his plan to establish a Sports Academy and continue training even after retiring from professional boxing. Usyk emphasized his daily training routine and his goal to return to the ring next year with the hope of achieving victory.

As Usyk prepares for his comeback, potential opponents include Joseph Parker and Tyson Fury, who recently announced his return to the ring. While Itauma’s name has been circulating as a potential challenger, Usyk has dismissed the notion of facing him, citing his youth and respect for his skills. Itauma, an undefeated British fighter, gained attention after his impressive knockout of Dillian Whyte, leading many to believe he is ready to challenge Usyk.

Itauma recently turned down an IBF final eliminator fight against Frank Sanchez, a bout that could have set him on a path to face Usyk. Instead, the British prospect has opted for a different route towards a world title fight. He explained his decision, highlighting the opportunity to face Usyk and the potential outcomes for his career at just 20 years old.

In other boxing news, Kieron Conway is scheduled to fight George Liddard on October 17 at York Hall in Bethnal Green. The event will feature an exciting undercard starting at 7pm UK time, with the main event expected to begin at around 10pm UK time. The fight will be broadcast live on DAZN, offering viewers a chance to witness the action either through the streaming platform or its official website and app.
