“Urgent Update: Chrome Users Warned of Critical Security Threat”

Date:

Chrome users are advised to promptly check and update their browser to the latest version following the release of a critical update by Google. The update addresses six security vulnerabilities, with one of them marked as a zero-day exploit, indicating active exploitation by cybercriminals.

To ensure protection, users should verify they are running version 138.0.7204.157/.158 for Windows and Mac, or 138.0.7204.157 for Linux. Security experts at Malwarebytes emphasized the importance of this update, highlighting the risk of system compromise without user interaction when visiting malicious websites.

To confirm the browser version, users can click on Chrome in the menu bar and select “About Chrome.” Any pending updates should be installed promptly to mitigate security risks. This warning comes after a recent alert for another zero-day bug and concerns over fake extensions targeting millions of Chrome users, prompting recommendations to reset Chrome settings and clear browsing data.

Google has removed the compromised extensions, ensuring new users are not affected. It is crucial for users to stay vigilant, update their browsers regularly, and exercise caution while browsing to prevent potential security threats.
