At least an additional 10,000 vehicles have been recalled in the United Kingdom, with drivers being advised not to drive them due to serious safety concerns. Initially, a “stop drive” directive was issued in June for specific Citroen and DS vehicles. However, the parent company Stellantis has now expanded the list to include more cars deemed unsafe for driving.
The safety issue pertains to the Takata airbag systems installed in these vehicles, which may be defective. This cautionary measure follows a tragic incident in Reims, France, where a woman suffered fatal injuries from an airbag in a 2014 Citroen C3 last year. Fortunately, no such incidents have been reported in the UK.
Stellantis will contact owners of the affected vehicles via letter to arrange free repairs. The company anticipates completing most repairs by early October. Drivers can verify if their vehicle is part of the recall by using the VIN check tool on the Citroen website.
In a recent statement, Stellantis emphasized its commitment to swiftly and responsibly addressing the issue, mobilizing its network to ensure a prompt and secure resolution for customers. The company’s decision to issue a stop-drive order for all affected vehicles across Europe, including the UK, underscores its dedication to customer safety.
Affected customers will receive notifications by mail and can also check for advisories using the VIN check tool on the Citroën UK website. Those impacted should register their vehicles promptly for repairs. For assistance with registration, owners can contact the Recall Helpline at 0800 917 9285.
