A mother from the UK was taken into custody during an immigration interview in the US while holding her infant son, with her American husband witnessing the events. The woman, identified as Katie, was apprehended by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials during a visit to an immigration office in San Diego for her Green Card application. Her husband, Stephen Paul, expressed shock and distress over the incident, mentioning that Katie had no criminal record and was in the final stages of obtaining permanent residency.
Despite being advised that overstaying her visa would not pose an issue during the Green Card process, Katie was confronted by ICE agents at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in San Diego. A Green Card, also known as a Permanent Resident Card, grants non-citizens the right to reside and work in the US permanently.
Stephen revealed that initially, Katie had planned to return to the UK last autumn and await entry, but the decision changed when she discovered she was pregnant.
