“UK grandmother stranded in Turkey due to healthcare bed shortage”

Date:

A grandmother facing serious health issues is currently stuck in Turkey as there are no available beds for her in the UK’s healthcare system. Gill Taylor-Scarth, 56, embarked on a family vacation to Turkey but fell ill during the trip. Despite being diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after her husband’s passing, she decided to fulfill his wish of enjoying a holiday with their family.

After experiencing health complications while in Turkey, Gill was rushed to a private hospital in Antalya where doctors advised immediate surgery due to the critical nature of her condition. Although the family wanted her to be flown back to the UK for treatment, the medical team proceeded with an eight-hour operation in Turkey.

Following the surgery, efforts to repatriate Gill have faced challenges as there are no available beds at The Walton Centre in Liverpool, where she was receiving treatment before her trip. The family, distressed by the situation, is struggling to bring her back home.

Despite the hospital’s assurance of working on repatriation plans, Gill’s daughter Sophie expressed concerns about her mother’s deteriorating health and mental state. Gill, who is aware of her surroundings but has lost mobility and speech, is experiencing complications including pneumonia post-surgery.

The family is distressed by the prolonged separation, escalating costs, and the emotional toll of the situation. With Gill’s condition continuing to worsen, they are desperate to have her back in the UK for comprehensive care and support.
