Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk clinched a bronze medal at the World Triathlon Championship Series competition in Weihai, China, on Saturday. The 32-year-old athlete, hailing from Oak Bluff, Manitoba, completed the race in one hour, 41 minutes, and 25 seconds.
Max Studer from Switzerland secured the gold medal with a time of 1:41:08, while Spain’s David Campero Del Campo claimed the silver medal, finishing seven seconds ahead of Mislawchuk.
Mislawchuk tackled the 1.5-kilometre swim in 18:39, followed by the 38.6-kilometre bike course in 51:53. He then completed the final 10km run in 29:35. Expressing his excitement, Mislawchuk stated, “It’s been seven years of close calls, but nothing compares to standing on the WTCS podium competing against the world’s best. I saw an opportunity today and went for it three kilometers into the run. The last five kilometers, I reminded myself that this is what I train for every day. It feels incredible to perform at the highest level.”
Unfortunately, fellow Canadian Liam Donnelly did not finish the race. In the women’s category, Canada’s Desirae Ridenour matched her career-best eighth-place finish for the second consecutive season. The 26-year-old athlete from Cowichan Bay, British Columbia, completed all segments in a total time of 1:50:58.
The gold medal in the women’s event was secured by France’s Cassandre Beaugrand with a time of 1:49:20. Beth Potter from Great Britain claimed the silver medal at 1:49:26, while Germany’s Lisa Tertsch took the bronze in 1:49:44.
