“Tumbler Ridge School Demolition Begins After Tragic Shooting”

Date:

Dismantling of Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in northeastern British Columbia commenced this week, following a tragic incident earlier this year.

In February, a devastating mass shooting at the school resulted in the loss of five students and one education assistant, marking one of the deadliest such events in Canada.

Over the past few weeks, crews have been emptying the school’s contents with the use of covered trucks in preparation for its demolition.

Christy Fennell, the superintendent of School District 59, conveyed that the demolition process is a significant step in the phased dismantling of the current school building, which is anticipated to span several more weeks.

Following the removal of the structure, efforts will focus on restoring the site to its natural state by the autumn, transforming it into a grassy area.

The school district has outlined that the demolition will be carried out in phases to minimize disruptions to the surrounding area.

It was stated that any debris resulting from the demolition will be disposed of in regional landfills to safeguard the privacy of the community.
