“Trump’s State Visit Ends Smoothly Amid Parachute Drama”

Date:

Mikey Smith, the Deputy Political Editor (Sunday) at the Mirror, captured the moment when Marine One departed from Chequers, signaling the end of Donald Trump’s second state visit.

Despite a day of overcast skies, the feared rain held off, sparing Downing Street aides the task of informing the President that the Red Devils parachute display might be canceled. The outdoor press conference had to be moved indoors due to the threat of rain, which fortunately never materialized.

At Chequers, the historic country estate of the Prime Minister, early arrivals like myself were treated to a delightful herby chicken sandwich, while latecomers had to settle for a vegan salad. The highlight of the day was watching Trump, Melania, Keir, and Lady Starmer witness the parachute jump by the Red Devils.

Subsequently, a group of reporters from the US and UK were ushered into a grand chamber adorned with oil paintings, where Trump administration members mingled with confusion-provoking applause at the start and end of the event.

Despite some tense moments, including Trump’s denial of knowing Peter Mandelson and a lengthy discussion about Biden’s autopen, the press conference and the entire state visit concluded without major incidents. Given recent events, it was an unexpected outcome for Keir Starmer.
