Former President Donald Trump praised the late conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder, Charlie Kirk, suggesting that Kirk had the potential to become a future U.S. president. Kirk tragically passed away after being shot in the neck during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University.
During a ceremony at the Pentagon honoring 9/11 victims, Trump announced his intention to posthumously award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom as a tribute. CNBC anchor Joe Kernen shared that Trump had expressed deep sorrow over Kirk’s untimely death and believed in Kirk’s presidential prospects.
Trump described Kirk as a monumental figure, a beacon of liberty, and an inspiration to many at the Pentagon event. Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk co-founded, lauded his unwavering passion for life and his commitment to making a positive impact.
Following the tragic incident, classes were canceled at several historically black universities due to threats received. Additionally, there was a brief scare at the Democratic National Committee in Washington DC, which was later determined to be a non-credible threat by Capitol Police.
Vice President JD Vance, a close friend of Kirk, traveled to Utah to pay his respects and is reportedly arranging for Kirk’s casket and family to be transported to Arizona aboard Air Force Two.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the U.S., is set to be awarded posthumously to Kirk in recognition of his contributions.
