Donald Trump has conveyed to Volodymyr Zelensky that he must approve of his peace proposal or continue battling with Russia in a stern response to Ukraine’s apprehensions.
When questioned by a reporter today regarding Zelensky’s remarks on the agreement aimed at terminating the conflict, Trump stated that Zelensky will need to accept it. He emphasized that at some point, Zelensky would have to come to terms with the proposal.
Trump has specified that next Thursday is the deadline for Zelensky to endorse the 28-point peace plan. Nonetheless, Zelensky has expressed concerns that accepting the plan would mean sacrificing Ukraine’s freedom, dignity, and justice.
The leaked plan suggests various measures such as Ukraine relinquishing parts of the eastern Donestsk region, downsizing its military, and committing to refrain from joining NATO.
Despite the pressure, Zelensky has vowed to present arguments, persuade, and suggest alternatives in response.
The proposal reportedly involves negotiations between Washington and Moscow and is perceived to be in favor of Russia. It dictates a reduction in Ukraine’s army size and prohibits the country from joining NATO. The plan also mandates Ukraine’s sovereignty, calls for elections within 100 days, and proposes a dialogue between Russia and NATO to address security concerns and prevent invasions of neighboring nations.
