“Train Stabbing in Cambridgeshire Not Terrorism”

Date:

Saturday’s stabbing incident on a train in Cambridgeshire is not being considered as an act of terrorism, according to the Home Secretary. Shabana Mahmood provided an update confirming that two suspects, who were British-born nationals, were apprehended at the scene in Huntingdon. She commended the swift response of emergency services and lauded the courage displayed by both staff and passengers on the LNER train.

Authorities disclosed that a 32-year-old British male and a 35-year-old man of Caribbean descent, also a British national, are currently in custody. The chilling attack resulted in eleven individuals being injured, with nine sustaining life-threatening wounds on a London-bound train. Fortunately, four of the victims have already been discharged from the hospital. The stabbings occurred shortly after the train made a stop in Peterborough.

In light of the incident, British Transport Police Superintendent John Loveless expressed shock over the event, refraining from speculating on the motive behind the stabbings. The first arrest was made just eight minutes after the attack was reported. Of the 11 individuals treated in the hospital, four have been released after initially being in critical condition. At this stage, there is no evidence to suggest that the incident was an act of terrorism, according to Mr. Loveless.

The violent episode transpired on a train departing from Peterborough station in Cambridgeshire at 7.42 pm, where police reportedly deployed a Taser against a man wielding a large knife. Two individuals have been detained by British Transport Police in connection with the assault on the service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross on Saturday evening.
