Justin and Amber Hicks, who had recently moved into their ideal residence, were tragically killed in their home while watching TV with their two-year-old son Jacob. The intruder, identified as Matthew Scott Lanz, entered the house and shot the couple, leaving little Jacob unharmed but alone amidst the gruesome scene for 12 hours.
Prosecutors revealed that the Hicks were unaware of the danger as they enjoyed their evening together before the fatal attack. The toddler witnessed the horrific incident, attempting to interact with his deceased parents afterward. Lanz is currently facing charges related to the murders in Cherokee County, Georgia, along with cruelty to children for subjecting Jacob to distress and neglect.
Despite the traumatic ordeal, Jacob was found unscathed when authorities located him. Friends of the deceased couple expressed their joy over finding their dream home, with Justin being a respected firefighter in the local community.
Following the incident, Lanz was apprehended after breaking into another residence and engaging in a violent confrontation with law enforcement. The trial has faced delays due to concerns about Lanz’s mental state, although a judge ruled him fit to stand trial. Lanz’s defense claims he believes he is being framed by government agencies.
The legal proceedings are ongoing as the case continues to unfold.
