Gemma Atkinson recently shared updates on her enduring relationship with Gorka Márquez, a professional from the popular TV show “Strictly Come Dancing.” The couple, who met during the 2017 season of the show, have been together for more than six years and are proud parents to two children — daughter Mia, born in 2019, and son Thiago, welcomed in 2023.
Although Gemma and Gorka were not dance partners on the show, their love story blossomed off-screen, and they officially announced their relationship after the season ended. They have become a beloved couple among fans of “Strictly Come Dancing,” often offering glimpses into their family life through their social media platforms. Despite inquiries from followers about their wedding plans, the couple has emphasized that there is no rush to organize a grand ceremony.
In a recent interview with Heat magazine discussing their future intentions, Gemma, an actress and radio host, disclosed, “We will be getting married. We are still deciding whether to have the wedding in England or Spain to ensure everyone can participate. But as Gorka mentioned recently, the idea of planning a wedding is quite overwhelming.”
Speaking about a conversation with a friend currently managing his own wedding arrangements, 35-year-old Gorka admitted feeling apprehensive about the process. He shared, “One of my close friends is preparing for a wedding in Italy in June. During my time on ‘Strictly,’ I lived with him for the initial weeks of filming. I noticed how stressed he was while planning the wedding in Italy within a short period.”
Reflecting on this experience, Gorka expressed his reservations about a lavish wedding, stating, “Seeing my friend’s stress, I realized I prefer to avoid the pressure of a big ceremony. I am content with our current situation.” Gemma, aged 40, echoed this sentiment, preferring a simple wedding over an extravagant affair, remarking, “I am not keen on a lavish wedding. A small ceremony in an office, followed by a celebration, suits us perfectly.”
Gorka humorously added that he would be happy with a modest celebration, joking, “A ring, signing the papers together, and a fun party afterward, that’s all we need.” The couple has openly acknowledged the challenges of balancing their careers, with Gemma transitioning from acting to hosting a radio show and Gorka managing his commitments on “Strictly Come Dancing” alongside appearances on the Spanish equivalent, “Bailando Con Las Estrellas.”
