Another cast member of the popular late-night show, Saturday Night Live, has announced their departure, making them the fifth to leave ahead of the upcoming season premiere. Ego Nwodim, aged 37, shared that she will not be returning to the NBC program after being part of the cast since 2018. In a statement, the comedian expressed gratitude to show creator Lorne Michaels for the opportunity and her decision to move on after seven seasons on the show.
Taking to Instagram, Ego wrote, “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL.” She thanked Michaels, her fellow cast members, writers, and crew for their support and friendship, acknowledging the valuable lessons learned during her time on the show.
Fans reacted with well wishes, expressing both sadness over her departure and excitement for her future endeavors. Ego joins a list of departing stars, which includes Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and Michael Longfellow, who have all recently announced their exits from SNL.
Reports have also surfaced regarding the departure of Heidi Gardner, a cast member since 2017. Additionally, the Please Don’t Destroy segment, featuring John Higgins, Martin Herlihy, and Ben Marshall, will not be returning. While John is leaving to pursue acting opportunities, Martin transitions to a writing role, and Ben is set to join the main cast for the upcoming season.
Upcoming changes also include the addition of new cast members Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska. The new season of SNL is set to kick off on October 4 in the United States.
