“Smaller Mobile Networks Outperform Major Providers”

Date:

A recent report by consumer group Which? revealed that the major mobile networks like EE, Vodafone, Three, and O2 are falling short in terms of overall performance compared to their lesser-known competitors. The report, based on a survey of over 5,000 smartphone users across the country, highlighted that smaller networks often offer better value and superior customer service.

Which? conducted the survey to assess which providers are meeting customer expectations and found that the traditional “Big Four” are trailing behind many smaller rivals. Talkmobile secured the top spot in the rankings, followed by Tesco Mobile, Giffgaff, and SMARTY. Among the major providers, EE performed the best, ranking ninth, while O2 and Three were among the lowest-ranked networks.

Price emerged as a significant factor in the report, with customers on the Big Four paying an average of £16 per month for a SIM-only deal, compared to just £9 for users on smaller networks. Despite the lower prices, many smaller providers utilize the major networks’ infrastructure, offering customers similar signal strength and service quality without the premium prices associated with well-known brands.

Switching between networks was highlighted as a straightforward process, with some users able to switch providers in as little as 10 minutes. One Which? member shared their experience of leaving O2 due to a price increase and switching to a more affordable SMARTY plan, saving around £200 annually.

Natalie Hitchins, the Head of Home Products and Services at Which?, emphasized that smaller providers consistently outperform the major mobile firms in terms of customer service and cost-effectiveness. She encouraged customers nearing the end of their contracts to consider switching to providers offering better value and service quality.

The rankings from Which? are as follows:
– Talkmobile: 83%
– Tesco Mobile: 81%
– Giffgaff: 79%
– SMARTY: 79%
– Voxi: 79%
– 1p Mobile: 78%
– Lebara: 78%
– Asda Mobile: 77%
– EE: 74%
– iD Mobile: 73%
– Sky Mobile: 73%
– Vodafone: 72%
– Lycamobile: 68%
– O2: 67%
– Three: 65%
